Asthma

Asthma is a chronic disease, that may be life-threatening if not identified and treated. It is caused by inflammation of the airways in the lungs. This inflammation makes the airways smaller and causes mucous production. These make it more difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs. Asthma is the most common serious disease among children.

Signs that you might have asthma include:

  • Coughing

  • Wheezing

  • Shortness of breath

  • Chest tightness

  • Breathing difficulty with exertion

History and evaluation

Many people have “allergic asthma,” which means that allergens – like dust mites, mold, animal dander, pollen and cockroaches – make their symptoms worse.

With a detailed history and evaluation, Dr. Bathija can determine if you are experiencing symptoms of asthma and provide you with the appropriate medications. Allergy testing can be performed to determine your allergic triggers, with teaching on avoidance of these triggers.
